Children Are Not the Future—They Are the Now

Introduction

Too often, we hear that children are “the future.” But the truth is far more urgent: children are the now. They are vulnerable right here, right now—facing real threats, complex challenges, and needing protection, education, and affirmation at this moment.

In this article, we explore three vital ways to secure their present and future:

  1. Guarding our children

  2. Protecting our children

  3. Educating our children

All undergirded by unwavering biblical truth and the lens of legacy.

1. Guarding Our Children

It’s often said that women are the most vulnerable—but in reality, children are the most unprotected.

  • Sex trafficking: The latest UNODC report reveals a 31% increase in detected child trafficking victims since 2019, now comprising 38% of all trafficking cases UNODCReutersWikipedia. Shockingly, children remain among the most targeted by traffickers worldwide.

  • Online exploitation: The FBI and NSPCC report a staggering 192% increase in global reports of child sextortion from 2023 to 2024, with platforms like Snapchat accounting for nearly 20,000 concerning cases in just six months The Guardian.

Biblical Perspective“Let the little children come to me…” (Matthew 19:14). When we fail to guard them, we fail to truly honor God.

2. Protecting Our Children

Beyond guarding, protection means equipping children with tools to affirm their worth, defend themselves, and stand firm in their spiritual identity.

  • Self-defense & affirmation: Teaching children age-appropriate self-defense and daily affirmations helps them internalize their value and resilience.

  • Faith under cultural attack: We’re raising kids amidst a culture increasingly hostile to Christian values. It’s our responsibility to equip them with Scripture and a secure identity in Christ:

    • “Train up a child...” (Proverbs 22:6)

    • “Children, obey your parents...” (Ephesians 6:1)

3. Educating Our Children

True education includes emotional, spiritual, and financial literacy—not just school subjects.

  • Money & investing: Teaching kids stewardship, saving, and wise investing lays the foundation for responsible adulthood and financial creativity.

  • Children are the now: Don’t postpone it. Empower them today—morally, financially, spiritually—for the legacy you intend to build.

Conclusion

Children aren’t just the future—they are here, forming, vulnerable, and capable. How we guard, protect, and educate them right now shapes everything to come.

Legacy is not built in what you leave—it’s built in what you live for now.It all starts with me, so let it be legacy.
